The Chamaerops 'Vulcano' originates from the north side of the Etna volcano in Sicily. This is where this palm owes its nickname 'Vulcano'. This exclusive palm species has a particularly compact growth with extremely strong leaves, which gives it a bonsai-like appearance. The Chamaerops 'Vulcano' is the brother of the Chamaerops Humilis, but differs from its relative in many ways. For example, it has more leaves that are short and compact, fewer spines on the leaf stems and this palm blooms faster. The leaf is dark green in color with a white waxy layer, which gives a beautiful contrast. The Chamaerops 'Vulcano' grows very slowly, which is why larger specimens are often quite expensive. This palm is not easy to obtain and seeds are almost impossible to find. This makes it a beautiful exclusive palm and an asset to any balcony, patio or garden.
Care
Chamaerops 'Vulcano' requires a sunny, light location and well-drained soil. The plant can withstand heat and drought, but during warm summers it is important to water the plant regularly. The Chamaerops cannot tolerate wet feet, so make sure that the water can drain well. The plant is winter hardy to -10 degrees Celsius. Partly because of its slow and compact growth, this is an ideal tub plant, but the plam can of course also be planted in the open ground. If it gets colder than -10 degrees Celsius, the plant needs some extra protection against frost.
Format
The plant has a height of 45-55cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 24cm.
