Lonicera Kamtschatica, also known as 'honeyberry', is an ornamental fruit-bearing shrub that can grow up to 1,5 metres high. This plant originates from Northeast Asia and Siberia and is still relatively unknown in the Netherlands. The fruits of the Lonicera are dark blue in colour and are somewhat larger than an average berry. The fruits look a bit like blueberries. As the name honeyberry already reveals, the taste is deliciously sweet. It is also a very healthy berry: they contain a lot of vitamin B and C. The berries are suitable for use in a dish or to eat freshly picked. Because the berries are fragile and therefore difficult to transport, the fruits are almost exclusively used for home consumption and are rarely found on the market. Grow your own honeyberry in the garden and enjoy these special berries!
Care
The honeysuckle is self-pollinating, bumblebees take care of the pollination. If there are several honeysuckle plants together, this gives an even better harvest. The plant blooms early: in March and April with small white, slightly fragrant flowers. In May, the flowers are followed by the blue fruits. Lonicera Kamtschatica is very winter-hardy and relatively easy to maintain. The plant likes a spot in the semi-shade or full sun and needs sufficient water. Only prune the plant in the first few years after the harvest. The honeysuckle is attractive to bees and butterflies. Birds are also fond of the honeysuckle, so it is advisable to temporarily cover it with a net or foil.
Format
The plants have a height of 25-40cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 9cm.
