The Phoenix Canariensis, better known as the Canary Island date palm, comes from the Canary Islands. There are many different species of the Phoenix, of which the Canariensis is the best known and most common. Phoenix Canariensis can now be found in any tropical climate, but in Spain and Italy these palms are often used as planting material along public roads or planted as ornamental plants. In a tropical climate, this palm can grow up to 18 meters high with leaves of 5 to 6 meters long.
Care
The Phoenix Canariensis likes a sunny location (full sun is no problem) and very well-drained soil. Water daily during dry springs and/or hot, dry summers. Always ensure that the palm is in well-drained soil and that excess water can drain directly from the pot. It is advisable to fertilize the palm once a year with concentrated or liquid plant food. The Phoenix Canariensis is a strong rooter and can be planted both in the open ground and in a pot. When using a decorative pot, ensure that the plant has sufficient space. The plant is moderately winter hardy and can tolerate frost of up to 5 degrees.
Format
The plant has a height of 80-100cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 19cm.
