Prunus domestica 'Opal' - Plum tree

The Prunus domestica Opal is one of the best-known plum varieties. The tree is self-pollinating, which means you don't need a second fruit tree to get fruit. The plums have an explosion of flavor and a thin skin. They are perfect to eat straight from the tree, but they can also be used in jam or juice, for example. The delicious plums can be harvested in July/August. After harvesting, the plum has a shelf life of no less than three weeks. In April/May the tree has beautiful, lightly scented white flowers.

Care
The care of Prunus domestica Opal is not difficult. The tree likes a spot in the sun or partial shade in nutritious, calcareous soil that is not too wet. The more sun the tree gets, the better the fruit will grow. In the spring, the plum tree likes to receive some nutrition, as an extra boost for the summer. After harvesting, the plum tree can be pruned.
