Strelitzia Nicolai - Bird of Paradise plant

The Strelitzia Nicolai, known in the Netherlands and Belgium as the Bird of Paradise plant, originates from South Africa. The Streltizia belongs to the Musaceae family and is therefore a close relative of the banana plant. A typical feature of this family are the cracks in the leaves of the plants. Care
The Strelitzia Nicolai is a real sun worshiper and therefore prefers a place with lots of light. As a result, the plant also needs a lot of water (pay attention to drainage to prevent root rot). In spring and summer the plant can also be placed on the terrace. The plant is not winter hardy, so if there is a risk of frost, you should bring it back indoors. The Strelitzia is slightly poisonous to children and pets. Moreover, the Strelitzia is known for its beautiful exotic flowers. However, this often only happens when the plant is decades old. Therefore, leave the plant for a while!
