The Washingtonia is also called the 'Mexican Fan Palm'. This palm owes its name to the first president of the United States, George Washington. The leaves of the Washingtonia, which are characterized by their beautiful light green color, are particularly large and can grow to a meter in diameter. It is a fast grower and can grow up to 15 meters high. This palm is extremely suitable as a patio palm, garden palm or even as a house palm.
Care
This Mexican Fan Palm needs a sunny location and well-drained soil. This palm is a real water lover. Especially in the summer this palm needs a lot of water, preferably daily during a dry/warm summer. Like many tropical palms, Washingtonia produces a substantial root system to provide itself with food and water. The plant can be kept in the open ground or in a pot, but if the pot is too small the palm will turn yellow and slowly die. Make sure you have a large pot and well-drained soil. The palm can be kept both indoors and outdoors, but is unfortunately not very winter hardy. The plant can tolerate frost down to a few degrees (+/- 5 degrees). When Washingtonia is kept in a pot, it can easily be placed in a hibernation room.
Format
The plant has a height of 50-60cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plant is supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 15cm.
