The Blue Rain, better known as the Wisteria, is an exuberantly flowering climbing plant that can be used on pergolas or against walls or fences. The plant is originally from the United States, China and Japan. It is a fast-growing climbing plant with beautiful blue flowers that hang down. The long flower clusters smell wonderful and can grow up to 25 cm long. It is a beautiful climbing plant with branches that wind around it. Especially in the beginning they need support, because the branches have no adhesive roots. A fully grown Wisteria can be quite heavy, so make sure you have sturdy pergolas and fences. It is important to train the branches in such a way that they cannot damage drainpipes or gutters. The wisteria is powerful and can damage these.
Care
The Wisteria is not a difficult plant, but it does need some help to grow along a wall or against a pergola. The plant prefers a sunny location and moderately to moist soil. The plant is very winter-hardy and should be pruned once or twice a year. In late summer, around July/August, the side branches of the Wisteria can grow enormously. The plant can grow up to three metres high! Prune the long side branches back to about 1-2cm, so that it survives the winter well. In early spring, around January/February, it is best to prune the side shoots of the Wisteria back to about 40-50 cm. Always prune the Wisteria in frost-free weather. After pruning, the plant will quickly grow again and produce beautiful purple flowers.
Format
The plants have a height of 25-40cm upon delivery, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are supplied in a nursery pot with a diameter of 9cm.
